It’s been a crazy past couple of days. My dad was coming to stay with me this weekend, both to help me clean out the basement from the flood of ’06 and because my family was having a brunch to celebrate my Auntie Ann’s 90th birthday. He arrived Thursday evening, bearing beef sandwiches, though I think he was more excited to see Baxter than me. Friday, we both went to work since he has an office in this area, and Friday night, the fun began, clearing out the carpets, washing loads and loads of laundry from the clothes that were in the water. Saturday, my dad and I mowed the lawn, moved furniture around and bleached the entire basement. It took all day and by the nighttime, we about collapsed.
Sunday was fun though so it was worth getting through the hellish day before. Auntie Ann turned 90 and a lot of the family met at the performing arts center for a brunch buffet. I love my dad’s side of the family. They make me crack up without even trying. I’m so glad that I’m finally getting to know them after living away from them for 12 years.
I had to leave the party early though to go to another one – Heidi and Dan’s shower. That was a lot of fun too and I was laughing constantly. Jim was serving everyone wearing a Chicago Bears apron, bending in front of people with trays of meatballs and veggies while Mary, in another apron, served cheeses and sausages. Janet and I spent a lot of time laughing at the “help”. Heidi was so excited to see me when I showed up. Of course I wasn’t going to miss her shower. She’s known me since I was “The Nose” for goodness sakes. That’s a long time. It’s weird to think of her getting married or seeing Janet with a nose ring but it was so great hanging out with people my own age again. I hated to leave but I had to so I could say goodbye to my dad before he left to go back to Ohio.
This weekend was completely exhausting. Just non-stop errands and work around the house. And now tomorrow is Monday – another work week. I can’t wait for Friday again. Baxter is exhausted too. He’s been asleep most of the night. Our weekends are usually quite lazy, me catching up on reading and my writing. This weekend took a toll on both of us. It’s only 8:30 and I already want to go to bed. But I finally got to see Dear Frankie which is an amazing movie and is highly recommended. It stars Gerard Butler and Emily Mortimer and both are incredible in it as the mom of a deaf boy and the man she hires for a couple days to pose as his dad. My mom have been wanting to see this but have had difficulty finding it. God bless movie channels.
On the plus side to this coming week, New Found Glory comes out with their new cd on September 19, Tuesday, the new season of The Office starts on Thursday, September 21, and Target is having a fabulous sale I must take advantage of. Also, I found some hilarious theories as to TomKat’s baby that had me laughing even though I think they are quite plausible.
