So, the parking lot at work is flooded and I had to wade through the water to my car. The roads are completely flooded. I was driving home for lunch, I-94 was closed off, so I had to take 169th Street which kind of scared me because that leads into Gary but I knew that 169th would take me home so I went that way and cut up Parrish which took me to Orchard. *sigh* The adventure was only beginning though. I came home and realized the the screen door to the front door was locked. I don't remember locking it. I couldn't unlock it so I had to go to the back door. I have a key for the back door but funny story. It may fit into the lock but that doesn't mean it UNlocks the doors. After becoming hysterical, I had to use my elbow and bust the back door window, finally getting inside. Baxter refused to pee outside in the rain so I went and took off my somping wet pants and shoes and went down in the basement to throw them in the dryer... stepping into a flooded basement!
The basement is flooded, completely flooded, the water in some areas hitting my shins, other areas hitting my ankles. I was on the phone with my mom and trying to save things that needed to be saved. Baxter wanted to be by me so without realizing that this was sewer water, he ran downstairs, leaping and falling over in the water, not knowing where to go and clearly panicking for he kept running further away from the stairs. I got really freaked out though because as I was talking to my mom, I felt my feet beginning to tingle. Yes. Electricty. I grabbed Baxter and we raced up the stairs. Thank God the water seems to be going down. And thank God again that my dad was planning on coming this weekend because if I had to clean out the basement and bleach everything by myself, I would lose it.
My next door neighbor, the best neighbor in the world, Claudia came over to check up on me and said that everyone got flooded. The houses across the street had water up to their knees in the basement so I'm so glad I live on the right side of the street! I called Linda to tell her that I couldn't come back to work since I had bigger things to worry about and she is so great. She told me to be careful, sounding kind of worried after I told her about the electric current, and then wanted to know how Baxter was. Yes. Baxter is fine. Me on the other hand am wishing that I lived with my parents back in Ohio where I wouldn't have to deal with this.
Oh! I just looked out the window and there's a fire truck parked about three houses down. I need to check that out.
