Oscar Nominations

Today, the Oscar nominations were announced with not too many surprises though there were a few and several that made me very happy. Ryan Gosling is nominated for Best Actor for Half Nelson. Gosling seriously is one of the best actors making movies right now and I'm just so happy that he's finally recognized for it.

Abigail Breslin is nominated for Best Supporting Actress as a girl obsessed with beauty pageants in Little Miss Sunshine. Though Jennifer Hudson winning this category for Dreamgirls is nearly a lock-in, how cool would it be if Breslin won it? My fingers are also crossed that Mark Wahlberg wins Best Supporting Actor for The Departed but once again, Eddie Murphy is already writing his acceptance speech for his supporting role in Dreamgirls.

Leonardo DiCaprio is nominated for Best Actor for Blood Diamond instead of The Departed but Forest Whitaker is going to win anyway for The Last King of Scotland. But thank god Martin Scorsese was nominated for Best Director. It's beginning to become a joke already. Give the man the Oscar he deserves! The buzz today though was that Dreamgirls was left out of the Best Picture nomination but come on. Who thought this was going to win Best Picture of the year? It stars Beyonce for goodness sakes. My money's on either Babel or The Departed. I really am just going to watch this year for Martin because I do hate award shows.
