Monday Night

What a productive evening this has been for me though it won't seem like that to some. I went to Target after work to pick some things up, including the new Regina Spektor cd Begin to Hope and the last of the Christmas presents I needed to get for my family. I then went home where I made a pot of macaroni and cheese, yelled at Baxter for pulling a glass ornament from off of the tree and then tried to stay warm while the temperature outside dropped down to single digits with windchill.

Listened to: Regina Spektor's newest cd Begin to Hope. I've talked about this singer/piano player several times now and her cd did not disappoint me. I was talking to Bill a while ago on how female singers, especially those from the 60s, used to sing with such raw emotion, you could actually connect with them through their lyrics. Regina Spektor makes me think that again - especially when she sings "Samson". You are my sweetest downfall. I loved you first. Beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth. I have to go. Your hair was long when we first met.

Watched: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I know a lot of fans of the Douglas Adams' book thought that the movie was nothing in comparison and they're right. The book is a fantastic read. But the movie is enjoyable - especially since I had never seen it before and I was so happy to see that it was on one of the movie channels because I mean to rent it every time I go to Drug Mart. And is it just me or is Mos Def a great guy to play Ford Prefect?
First lines of the movie - "It's an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem. For instance, on the planet Earth, Man had always assumed that he was the most intelligent species occupying the planet, instead of the *third* most intelligent. The second most intelligent were of course dolphins. Dolphins had long known of the impending destruction of earth and had on many occasions tried to alert mankind but their warnings were mistakenly interpreted as amusing attempts to punch footballs or whistle for titbits."

Read: Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie - I started to read this after Hitchhiker ended and was finished by 10 o'clock - a perfect bedtime for me. I think it's impossible to read this book and not fall in love with it. Who hasn't thought of the notion of never having to grow up? Who hasn't wished that they could fly or actually try to find the second star to the right? This is one of the greatest books written and it's just not for children. I do believe in fairies! I do!
