Meet Mat Kearney

VH1 really pissed me off this morning. I was watching this station before work because in the morning is the only time music videos are ever really played on any music television station. A music video started playing. It seemed to come out of nowhere. It just started playing so suddenly with no artist name, song title, album title - nothing was listed. I had no idea what I was watching. But I knew that it was amazing. I sat completely still and for 4 1/2 minutes, stared at the television, watching this mysterious singer and this video that looked almost homemade. Even at the end of the video, there was nothing given to me as to reveal the identity of what I had just watched.

After getting over my disbelief at VH1's stupidity for not promoting music videos a bit better, I went to the channel's main website and clicked on VSpot20 - which is the channel's weekly countdown of the top videos. After a few hits and misses, I found it. Mat Kearney "Nothing Left to Lose". I watched the video again and am already planning to buy the man's cd this weekend. You can watch the video here and listen to the song, which is perfectly mellow for although I'm this huge classic rock fan, my favorite music is slow mellow music perfect to be played in the background. I've been home from work for a half hour and Mat Kearney has been on repeat. I'm so glad I turned on the television this morning since I usually don't do that. But still. VH1 needs to really label their videos a bit better. I plan to give a review of the cd when I buy it but I can already tell, if "Nothing Left to Lose" is any indication, that it's going to be amazing.

*Update* My friend Brian just told me that he listened to the song and he asked me "is matt kearney the lead singer of counting crows? that's who he sounds like" Yes and No. Mat does sound like him but the lead singer of the counting crows is Adam Duritz. And besides, Mat doesn't have Adam's signature crazy-ass dreadlocks.
