I Shouldn't Be Working on Columbus Day

Another weekend gone, another dreaded workweek beginning. I was home this weekend, initially to help Adam celebrate his 21st birthday but Chrissy came home Saturday night as well so I wound up having a family weekend, which was nice and very much needed. It was hard to leave Sunday afternoon to drive back on account of having to go into work Monday. I hate my job. I really don’t like to and it isn’t the reason my mom thinks it is which is I have a job where I actually have to work. I just don’t like it. I don’t want to do this for the rest of my life. I know a lot of people don’t like their jobs but I honestly dread getting up every morning and at night, around 9 o’clock, I dread going to bed because that means that I have to get up the next morning for work.

I left work around noon on Friday and got on the road about an hour later after eating lunch and loading up the car. Baxter, I think, is actually getting used to traveling. After filling up at the Super Duper, he seemed to fall right asleep, or at least he didn’t bark. He only gets antsy and talkative when he needs to go to the bathroom. We stopped at the coolest rest area about 26 miles outside of Columbus. It was hidden amongst the woods, which were even more beautiful due to the changing fall colors, and up a small hill was a picnic area with different paths leading into the woods. Baxter wanted to explore but honestly, and maybe I’ve seen too many horror movies, but hiking in the woods alone at dusk is not my idea of a safe good time.

It’s so nice being home. I don’t know why but it is. I really didn’t want to leave and I won’t be back until Thanksgiving. Chrissy is coming to stay with me Thursday and Friday night because she has some work to do in Chicago and then next weekend, Heidi and Dan are getting married and so my parents and Chrissy are coming once again to stay with me. A lot hopefully will be happening on the 20th. A new floor in the kitchen is being laid down, new front and back doors will (cross your fingers) be delivered and installed and I still have to call and set up an appointment but Baxter will be having his very first grooming. He is definitely part polar bear. His nails are growing at an alarming rate and I think he secretly sharpens them to make my life more unbearable at times. I will also have time to go furniture shopping with my mom so I can get a secretary’s desk for the spare bedroom. I have books overflowing in my room and I also need a desk so I figured a secretary’s desk with that built in bookshelf above the desk was the best way to go – that and it doesn’t take up too much space and space is something this house doesn’t have so I must choose wisely. Furniture doesn’t appear monstrous in stores until you get it home.

As Drew Carry once said, "oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say something? There's a support group for that. It's called 'everybody!' They meet at the bar!"
